Please allow me to convey to Your Excellency the cordial greetings and best regards of President Hu Jintao and the Chinese government and people to Your Excellency and the government and people of Papua New Guinea.

Papua New Guinea is a beautiful island country in the South Pacific with rich resources. The people of Papua New Guinea are hardworking and kind. Over the past 35 years since independence, the government and people of Papua New Guinea have made unremitting efforts and achieved great success in upholding state sovereignty and independence, developing national economy and promoting social progress. Papua New Guinea is committed to a foreign policy of peace, friendly exchanges and cooperation with other countries and regional stability and development. It is playing an increasingly important role in regional and international affairs. We sincerely wish your country greater success in the future.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to its relations with Papua New Guinea. We view Papua New Guinea as our true friend and an important partner in the Pacific islands and are committed to the development of friendly relations and cooperation with Papua New Guinea on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1976, China and Papua New Guinea have treated each other with equality and mutual respect in the political field, supported each other for common development in the economic arena and maintained close communication and coordination in regional and international affairs. Our exchanges at various levels are frequent, and practical cooperation in many areas, such as the economy, trade, culture, education, health and military affairs are deepening. The relationship between China and Papua New Guinea has become an example of friendly cooperation between China and the Pacific island countries. It has not only brought tangible benefits to the two peoples but also promoted regional stability and development. The Chinese government is ready to work with the Papua New Guinean side to further strengthen the friendly exchanges and mutually-beneficial cooperation in various fields and make new progress in the bilateral relations.

Your Excellency, I am greatly honored to be appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. During my tenure of office, I will exert my efforts to further develop the friendly and cooperative relations between our two countries and the friendship between our two peoples. I believe that in carrying out this important mission, I shall receive assistance and support from Your Excellency and your government.

Thank you, Your Excellency.
