Secretary General of the Vietnamese Communist Party Central Committee Nong Duc Manh Meets Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan

On July 24, 2001, Secretary General of the Vietnamese Communist Party Central Committee Nong Duc Manh met with Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, who is in Hanoi to attend the ASEAN Regional Forum.  
 
Asking Tang to convey his cordial greetings to General Secretary Jiang Zemin and other Chinese state and party leaders, Manh expressed once again his congratulations on the 80th anniversary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Beijing's successful bidding for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games. He expressed gratitude to Hu Jintao, Standing Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee for leading a delegation to attend the Ninth National Congress of the Vietnamese Communist Party not long ago. He said the Vietnamese Communist Party is working hard to implement the resolutions adopted at the Party's Ninth National Congress as the central task of the Vietnamese Communist Party is to development economy. He went on to say that what is imperative at present is to accelerate social progress and realize the 2010 development target set forth at the Ninth Party Congress. He said the speech by CPC General Secretary Jiang Zemin at the meeting marking the CPC's 80th anniversary was very important, and that the Vietnamese side is willing to share the experience of the Chinese side in party building, national construction and reforms.

Manh said that Vietnam will continue to attach importance to its ties with traditional friendly countries, neighboring states and other socialist countries, adding that Vietnam stands ready to intensify all-round cooperation with China. He spoke highly of the maintenance of good momentum in bilateral relations, adding that the principles of long-term stability, looking to the future, good-neighborliness and friendliness and all-round cooperation set forth by the top leaders of the two countries and the Joint Statement issued last year have pointed out specific objectives for the all-round development of bilateral relations in the new century. He said that the bilateral land border pact, the demarcation of Beibu Gulf and the fishery agreement are all of great significance. He noted that economic cooperation and trade between the two countries have also been going very smoothly, adding that the two sides should double efforts to implement the consensus that has been reached so far. He emphasized that Vietnam is willing to maintain the exchange of high-level visits with China and further develop multi-tiered cooperation with the Chinese side in various sectors and industries. He said that the friendly dialogue between the youth groups of the two countries should be stepped up so that the generations to come will also cherish the good-neighborly and cooperative ties between Vietnam and China.
 
Conveying the cordial greetings to Manh from General Secretary Jiang Zemin and other Chinese state and party leaders, Tang extended warm congratulations on the success of the Ninth National Congress of the Vietnamese Communist Party and on Manh's election as General Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party. He expressed the belief that the Vietnamese people will be able to realize the strategic targets of the Ninth National Congress of the Vietnamese Communist Party under the leadership of the Vietnamese Communist Party Central Committee headed by Nong Duc Manh.
